Reducing Anxiety
- £660 (£55 per session)
- 50 minutes
- 12 Sessions
Anxiety is an emotion we all experience from time to time. However, if a teenager is overestimating a threat and underestimating their coping, creating difficulties in functioning, and interfering in daily activities, then help should be sought.
Anxiety difficulties can take many forms from a phobia of dogs to a disabling fear of social embarrassment, to sudden panic attacks. Cognitive behaviour therapy is an approach that unpicks the vicious cycle of fear, unhelpful thinking patterns, and avoidant behaviours that perpetuate anxiety. Strategies for managing the fight-flight-freeze response that is activated when anxiety is experienced are taught, giving mastery over the physiology of fear and a sense of control.
A course of 12 online 50-minute sessions costs £660.
Improving Low Mood
- £660 (£55 per session)
- 50 minutes
- 12 Sessions
Whilst low mood can be common in the teenage years as they let go of childhood and learn to negotiate a complex 24/7 social world, if it persists and begins to impact their daily activities, help should be sought.
Low mood can lead to a loss of confidence, persistent irritability, a loss of interest in fun activities, tearfulness, feelings of guilt and worthlessness, and retreating to the safety of pajamas and a duvet. Behavioural activation therapy is an approach that gently nudges a teenager back into activities that they have withdrawn from. What makes life meaningful is explored and their unique strengths are identified to equip them in their battle to resist retreating to the call of the duvet.
A course of 12 online 50-minute sessions costs £660.
Alternatives to Self-harm
- £660 (£55 per session)
- 50 minutes
- 12 Sessions
The teenage years are a time of huge change – the physical body is changing; hormones are running riot and the brain is re-wiring its neurological circuits. Social skills are heavily used whilst undergoing rapid development which can lead to ugly situations and casualties.
Positive coping strategies do not always suffice, and self-harm can be an effective alternative suggested by peers or on social media platforms. Because a huge component of self-harm is a need for control, it is of uttermost importance that the desire to reduce self-harm and grow alternative ways of coping is the teenager’s decision. Dialectical behavioural therapy is an approach that seeks to build resources for coping with strong emotions that feel out of control.
A course of 12 online 50-minute sessions costs £660.
